After watching The Power of Words and The Behavioral ScienceGuy here are a few take aways.
The Power of Words
As shown by the video, words are such a powerful tool. In the man could not see and wasn't really getting much from his sign which just said "I'm blind please help." When the women stepped in and wrote something different, his situation had not changed, but due to the words she wrote, people changed their perception of him. "It's a beautiful day and I CAN'T see it," while everything in the sign is still true, people reacted differently. Words can change people perception, it just depends on how they are used.
The Behavioral ScienceGuys
In this video, children walked around and tried to convince smokers that something is bad for them, they could get help and tried to give them a paper. With this approach, the children were not very successful in getting their attention. They changed their approach and instead the children asked the smokers for a light and the smokers not only REFUSED, but they also started telling the children why smoking is BAD. The children then asked them a very important question, if they care about the children, then why don't they care about themselves? These interactions showed the power of an influential question, the person was free to explore rather than having to sit through another lecture or speech as to why their bad habit was bad. People react differently to different approaches, the way we approach things can mean the difference between rejection and consideration.
